It’s that time of year, the days are getting longer. I get the feeling that we sould be sorting out our fishing gear so that when the spring fishing starts we will be ready.
RISAA’s New England Saltwater Fishing Show is March 22-24 at the Rhode Island Convention Center. Information is available at www.nesaltwatershow.com . There are lots of free seminars available if you need to learn a few things. It also takes your mind off winter and gets you primed for fishing!
Spring is on its way that means Piping Plovers will soon arrive. Call the RIMS INFO LINE (401-256-5020) before your tires hit the sand for details on any trail restrictions. We must all abide by any restrictions RIMS puts in place during this time.
SAVE THE BAY is spearheading the vegetation restoration on the recently filled marshes near lot 75. Two types of grass will be planted. The higher elevations will have Beach Grass planted, and the lower elevations will have Salt Marsh Grasses planted. The timeframe for this will likely be April- May. I will update the Info line (401-256-5020) when the dates are known. Let’s get ready to help out in a big way on this project!
MEMBERSHIP, during the September 2018 meeting in executive session, after much discussion, the board voted to reorganize the application review process on accepting applications. This means that:
- Membership will remain open so prospective members can submit applications to the club.
- All applications received will be placed on a wait list in the order they are received by postmark.
- Application fees have been discontinued.
- A letter will be sent to applicants stating that their application has been received and has been placed on a wait list.
In the meantime, the board will be doing an internal review of what we want to see in prospective members, as well as reviewing to our own internal application review process. We are making every effort to expedite these two reviews. Once done we will process the waiting applications in the order in which they were received.
Trail trim back and spring cleaning is the Saturday before Easter, April 20th we will meet at the last parking lot before the sand trail at 8:30 am. This is done at the same time QBCC does their Beach Cleanup. More Information will posted on the info line and RIMS Facebook page.
Hopefully you read my January letter urging club participation. It is the life blood of this club. The more people helping out makes it a lot more enjoyable. I can’t wait to air down my tires!
See you on the beach,
Thank You, Erik Rogde President
