May 2020

Our meetings have been put on hold by the necessary steps taken to slow the spread of the corona virus. Until such time as these executive orders are rescinded, our monthly meetings are cancelled. Our annual meeting is tentatively scheduled for September 12th. As things change you will be motified thru the Info-line, Facebook or email. Those of you who live in Rhode Island, I encourage you to access our property as often as possible. Overnight fishing vehicles on RIMS property is not recommended at this time, especially for non RI residents, as are not allowed to fish RI waters at this time.

Before all the restrictions hit we were able to remove the snow fence, which left us with quite a bit of sand on the entrance to lot 75. Thanks to Deano, Ted and the rest of the crew that did all the heavy lifting. Mike Marrone was kind enough to donate his time and track machine to smooth out the entrance into lot 75 the following week. This helps our access tremendously and is very much appreciated.

The Quonochontaug Beach Conservation Commission (QBCC) sponsored Trail cleanup did not happen this year because of restrictions. You didn’t miss it, it just didn’t happen. So be aware there may be more vegetation than usual along the sand trail.

The Weekapaug Fire District has placed removable saw horses across the entire entrance to the private parking lots. As we enter we are asked to remove and then replace them, just like opening and closing the gate after yourself at the trail head.

Piping Plovers will soon arrive. Call the RIMS INFO LINE (401-256-5020) before your tires hit the sand. For details on any trail restrictions. We must all abide by any restrictions RIMS puts in place during this time. Opening day for freshwater fishing was early this year, It took the wind out of the usual opening day festivities, but it offered some much needed relief for those of us who are getting cooped up over stay at home guidelines. I’ve heard some good fishing stories already. It helps pass the time.

Don’t let these troubling times get the best of you. They will pass and we will be looking at this in the rear view mirror before you know it. Practice social distancing, and only go where you must until this pandemic passes.

Thank You, Erik Rogde, President
