September 2019

With the birds having fledged, we no longer have to escort our vehicles across the over wash, and nighttime driving restrictions have been removed! With the shorter days comes better fishing, and soon the summer crowds will subside. I’ve seen some good pictures of Bonita and Fluke caught by Peter Alter from our shores. This is always good news, and it helps peak the fishing interest.

Saturday, September 21 is our annual beach cleanup in conjunction with Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup and Save The Bay. We will meet at the clubhouse at 8:00 am to collect supplies and coordinate cleanup crews. Please participate in this, it can be a lot of fun with enough people, you fulfill your points obligations for conditional members and you won’t believe the amount/variety of garbage found on our shores.

Remember 2020 Membership Renewals will be due between Sept 01, 2019 and Dec 31, 2019.

Try to get your renewal in early. Start thinking about it now! Don’t let it slip! We don’t want members to be late on renewal. It causes a lot of extra work for our Chairperson who is a volunteer just like the rest of us.

Keep in mind we are still looking for a replacement treasurer for Nadine. Anyone who can help is encouraged to contact myself or Nadine for details.

Mark your calendars for the annual Fall Surf Club Challenge tournament. The dates are Oct 4th, 5th & 6th, hopefully you can clear your schedule, get your gear ready, and make it to the shore. Last year was epic. I hope we have similar results. Help us get first place for a 3rd straight fall tournament and raise some much needed funds for this seasons selected charity.

Glen Morris, son of the late Don Morris who was very active in RIMS emailed the following. “I have (3) Fuji fishing poles and one Penn 750SS reel that I would like to donate to the club. These belonged to my dad Don Morris and I have no use for them. Perhaps they could be auctioned off and the money donated to the beach access fund? For follow up and/or questions, please contact me.”

The Spring Outing seems like the best venue for this, however I would like to hear member feedback on this. Hopefully we can come up with a plan that gives these items the respect they deserve.

Hope to see you at the beach!

Thank You, Erik Rogde, President
