Hi Everyone,

I can’t believe that the summer is gone, and we are approaching the end of 2025 already. As we approach the end of the year it’s time to assess who in our club were key to this year’s successes.

This year the club made great progress on the:

  • Ongoing conservation of our property and surrounding beach,
  • Our beach clean-ups,
  • Various work parties,
  • The 2025 Spring Outing and elections,
  • Club and Local Charity Tournaments,
  • Our beautiful Memorial Gardens,
  • Great fun on the beach and
  • Another awesome year of fishing, clamming & boating.

None of these events could have happened without participation/leadership of committee chairpersons, the board of directors and the membership. This brings me to the point of this article.

It’s now time to recognize them and nominate them for the 2025 Club Awards:

Here is how this works - If you think that someone qualifies for one of the three awards on the next page, please nominate them on the form below and submit it to the chairman by 12/15/2025.

Member of the Year

Nominate the person that you think did the most for the club this year. Please remember that there are leaders and there are the workers. When considering who to nominate, consider those that went out of their ways to do things for the club. Such as keeping the lots cleaned up, Collecting trash off of the beach and the rocks, etc.…

Humanitarian of the Year

Originally named the Humanitarian Award, this award was renamed in 1972 to the Robert L. Smith Humanitarian Award in memory of Bob Smith, an early member who was known for his dedication and sincerity, as well as an important member of the United Mobile Sportfishermen. This award is given in recognition to the member who has done the most overall for the club. The member selected for this award will be one that most shows his/her dedication to RIMS by way of many hours of work and thought for the better interest of RIMS. This is not necessarily a yearly award. Please nominate the person that you think meets these qualifications.

Outstanding Member

Nominate any member that has served the membership of RIMS in an extraordinary way and has done it for a long period of time. In the past 60 plus years there are members of our club that have gone without being recognized. Without their help and dedication to the mission of RIMS over the years, we would not be where we are today. This is especially evident when you hear of other clubs, like ours, dissolving year after year. This award is for them. Here are the basic rules:

  • You have to be a member in Good Standing for at least 5 years,
  • You can only receive this award one time as it is a Life-Time achievement award and
  • The award is the coveted one of a kind “Black Jacket” (like the Green Jacket for the Masters)

I hope that the membership (especially Life members) will nominate more individuals that may have been missed over the years. Ones that have made a difference to RIMS.

Past recipients of this award are the following:

  • Robert J. Kardys
  • Jeffrey J. Parmelee
  • James Milardo
  • Richard W. Taylor
  • Burton “Deano” Blessing
  • Erik Rogde
  • Peter Allegro
  • Debbie Gosselin
  • Ken Blanchard Jr.

You can vote by using the online form above, or you can download the nomination form here and mail your choices back to me, or emailing me at toddzagurski@mail.com with your choices.
